Scholarship Guidelines
- Applications for the Scholarship are available each year at the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education
- The criteria are provided in the National Baptist Scholarship Application Packet
- The Scholarship Committee will evaluate each State applicant based on the criteria outlined in this application packet. E.valuation points will be assigned as follows: application (5) academic GPA (10) academic curriculum (10) church participation (15) community participation (5) content of recommendations (5), essay (50).
- Each State Congress may submit one applicant to the National Scholarship Commission.
- All applications must be typed and submitted in the original format. (emailed or faxed copies will not be accepted)
- The award will consist of a five thousand dollar ($5,000) scholarship; one for each applicant from each of the five regions of the National Baptist Convention as submitted. If there is no applicant from one of the regions, the funds will be divided in a prorated manner.
- A scholarship will be awarded to a student in the name of the National Baptist Convention President, Dr. Julius R. Scruggs and an additional one in the name of the Congress President Dr. George W. Waddles; all others will be awarded in the name of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.
The scholarship deadline for submission to the local District President is in September and the final application must be submitted by December 15.
The American Legion Oratorical Contest
November 19, 2012“A constitutional speech contest”
The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. The program has featured numerous politicians and prominent contestants over the years, including former president candidate Alan Keyes and CNN anchor Lou Dobbs.
Young orators earn some of the most generous college scholarships available to high school students. Over $138,000 in scholarships can be awarded each year. The overall national contest winner gets an $18,000 scholarship. Second place takes home $16,000, and third gets $14,000. Each department (state) winner who is certified into and participates in the national contest’s first round receives a $1,500 scholarship. Those who advance past the first round receive an additional $1,500 scholarship. The American Legion’s National Organization awards the scholarships, which can be used at any college or university in the United States.
High school students under age 20 are eligible. Competition begins at the post level and advances to a state competition. Legion department representatives certify one winner per state to the national contest, where department winners compete against each other in two speaking rounds. The contest caps off with a final round that decides the three top finishers.
Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. Speeches are eight to 10 minutes long; three- to five-minute speeches on an assigned topic also are part of the contest.

Judging
Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of The Fountainhead.
Essay submissions are evaluated in a fair and unbiased four-round judging process. Judges are individually selected by the Ayn Rand Institute based on a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Ayn Rand’s works. To ensure the anonymity of our participants, essay cover sheets are removed after the first round. Winners’ names are unknown to judges until after essays have been ranked and the contest results finalized. The Ayn Rand Institute checks essays with Ithenticate plagiarism detection software.

CHCI Scholarship Program Description
CHCI’s scholarship opportunities are afforded to Latino students in the United States who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. There is no GPA or academic major requirement. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply.
CHCI scholarships provide recipients with a one time scholarship of:
- $1,000 to pursue an associate degree
- $2,500 to pursue an undergraduate degree
- $5,000 to pursue graduate-level study
Scholarship awards are intended to provide assistance with tuition, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with college enrollment.
In an effort to ensure the progress of scholarship recipients and encourage completion of the postsecondary program, each associate and undergraduate level scholarship award is divided over the number of years required for graduation (i.e. a $2,500 scholarship for a college freshman will be distributed in four equal installments of $625 a year).
Students continue to receive annual disbursements as long as they maintain good academic standing. CHCI manages the disbursement of the scholarships; an annual check is sent directly to recipients.
Eligibility Criteria
- Full-time enrollment in a United States Department of Education accredited community college, four-year university, or graduate/professional program during the period for which scholarship is requested
- Demonstrated financial need
- Consistent, active participation in public and/or community service activities
- Strong writing skills
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or individuals who are lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employerand who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.
Lagrant Foundation Scholarships

In celebration of our 27th Anniversary, TLF will award a total of $150,000 in scholarships to 50 ethnically diverse college & university students across the nation.
30 ethnic minority undergraduate students received scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each.
20 ethnic minority graduate students received scholarships in the amount of $3,750.
2025 Scholarship Recipient Trip dates: Sunday, May 4, 2025 – Wednesday, May 7
2025 Scholarship Program Criteria
Undergraduate
Undergraduate scholarship recipients will receive a trip where they will participate in career building activities, including a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, three daylong career development & professional workshops and a scholarship & donor recognition reception.
Undergraduate (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors ONLY!) applicants meeting the following criteria and completing the online application will be considered for The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) scholarship in the amount of $2,500.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient
- Must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/American Indian
- Must be a full-time student at a four-year, accredited institution in the U.S., carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter
- *Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA (if you do not meet this requirement, please see the application checklist below)
- MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis in advertising, marketing, public relations
- MUST have AT LEAST ONE YEAR to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded in May 2025
- Recipients MUST be available to participate in the scholarship activities from Sunday, May 4, 2025 – Wednesday, May 7. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities as noted at top of page to receive the scholarship. The applicant must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support

- MUST have a MINIMUM OF TWO ACADEMIC SEMESTERS or ONE-YEAR left to complete his/her Master’s degree from the time the scholarship is awarded in May 2025. Summer semesters DO NOT count

The Healthcare Marketing & Communications (marcom) scholarship will be awarded to 10-20 students who will receive a trip to Minneapolis where they will participate in career building & professional development activities and networking with various companies in the healthcare field. TLF’s Healthcare Marcom scholarship is specifically for ethnic minorities interested in communications & marketing in the healthcare industry. This includes healthcare brands/companies and healthcare practices at communications/PR agencies.
Examples of companies and organizations in healthcare include: Pharma (Bayer, Merck), Technology (Medtronic), Payers, Providers (UnitedHealthcare), Hospital Systems, Biotechnology (Amgen), Nutrition, Agencies (Real Chemistry, The Weber Shandwick Collective, FleishmanHillard), etc.
Undergraduate (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors ONLY!) and Graduate/Ph.D. applicants meeting the following criteria and completing the online application will be considered for The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) Healthcare marcom scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $3,750.

You MUST be able to attend all days of the scholarship program to be considered.

Dell Scholars Program Scholarship

- Be eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant in first year of college

Bank of America Joe Martin Scholarship
November 19, 2012The scholarship is named in honor and memory of Joe Martin, former Principal Corporate Affairs Executive and Special Counsel to former Chairman Hugh McColl. Joe sacrificed much time and effort to better his community. He represented the kind of well-rounded, knowledge-seeking character that Bank of America hopes to mirror in its quest to provide opportunities to students with the determination to excel.
The Bank of America Joe Martin Scholarship program is a competitive scholarship program available for college or vocational schools in the U.S. to dependents of employees who have been employed by Bank of America for at least 1 year. Dependents of deceased, disabled, or retired employees also are eligible.
- Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, character, and contributions to school and community
- Awards are $2,500 for 1 year of full-time study
- Awards may be renewed for up to 3 additional years on the basis of satisfactory academic performance
Bank of America may suspend, change or terminate this program at any time. The interpretation, application and administration of the program shall be determined by the Board of Directors of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation Board, whose decision is final.
Applications for the Joe Martin Scholarship will be accepted from December 1 through the last day of February. Winners will be notified no later than June.
For an employee’s dependent to be eligible, an employee must be:
- An active full-time or part-time Bank of America employee (service with predecessor banks or subsidiaries of Bank of America is counted as Bank of America service)
- Employed by Bank of America for at least 1 year
- In job bands 4 – 9 at the time the scholarship is awarded (employees in job bands 0 – 3 are not eligible).
Students must:
- Be 23 years of age or younger and a dependent of a Bank of America employee
- Be a high school senior or graduate
- Plan to be enrolled or currently be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, or vocational/technical school located in the United States
- Enroll in the college, university, or vocational/technical school of their choice in the U.S. no later than the fall of the year in which the award is given
Complete eligibility criteria and application guidelines are available between December 1 and the last day of February.

Scholarship Award
Through its Education and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $24,000/four years to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be a graduating, minority high school senior;
- Plan to attend an accredited and approved four–year institution within the United States;
- Show leadership potential;
- Demonstrate a dedication to community service;
- Present evidence of financial need;
- Be a United States citizen;
- A minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 21; and
- Not possess a degree from a 2 or 4–year College when applying for the scholarship.
Application Components
The required components of the Jackie Robinson Foundation application are:
- A completed and submitted online application;
- One (1) letter of recommendation submitted online only
- SAT or ACT scores sent to the Foundation directly from the testing agencies. The Foundation’s college codes are: SAT 4248/ACT: 6570.
You will need to have a copy of your SAT or ACT scores and your latest high school transcript in order to complete the questions on the online application.
Mailing Materials
We will not accept the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship application or supporting documents via mail, email or fax. Applications and letters of recommendation will only be accepted via our online application program.
Verification
Applicants invited to interview with one of the regional committees will be required to bring copies of the documents listed below to the interview.

National Honor Society Scholarship Program
November 19, 2012Eligibility
To be eligible, a student must be:
- A high school senior and/or expecting to receive a high school diploma during the current academic year.
- An active member in good standing of a National Honor Society chapter, meeting all membership requirements and obligations of the local chapter.
- An NHS student account holder, verified by the NHS chapter adviser.
- Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. college or university.
Note: There are no limits to the number of applicants per chapter.

Scholarships for African American, Hispanic, and American Indian Chemical Science Students
Celebrating 16 years!
ACS awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields. Awards of up to $5,000* are given to qualified students. African American, Hispanic, or American Indian high school seniors or college freshman, sophomores, or juniors pursuing a college degree in the chemical sciences or chemical technology are eligible to apply.
