Georgia Scholarship Programs
February 9, 2017Programs and Regulations
As Georgia’s premier provider of student financial aid and educational services, we administer a variety of programs to help gain postsecondary training, certifications and degrees.
Scholarships: Money for college that does not have to be repaid. Awards may be based on past academic performance, special areas of study, academic excellence or other criteria. Example: Zell Miller Scholarship
Grants: Money available for college that does not have to be repaid. Awards may be based on financial need, past academic performance, service to the community or special areas of study. Example: HOPE Grant
Student Loans: Unlike a grant, a loan must be repaid. Loans should be used primarily to meet a gap in your educational cost (tuition, room and board, textbooks). Usually, students begin paying back their loans at the end of a grace period that begins once they have completed their education. Example: Student Access Loan (SAL)
Service-Cancelable Loans: Student loans that will not have to be repaid if certain conditions are met, such as working in a particular field or military service. Example: Scholarship for Engineering Education for Minorities (MSEE)
Military Programs: Money available for college that does not have to be repaid if certain conditions are met such as military service. Example: Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship

This scholarship gives us an opportunity to do just that.

Essay Topic
To apply, you’ll need to submit a 500+ word essay on the following topic:
How can we, as a nation and global community, lower the risks of texting and driving?
Once the application period closes, Thomas Law Offices will determine a winner based on the following factors: feasibility, originality, creativity, and the applicant’s level of knowledge in the topic as well as their ability to write a well-crafted essay. We aren’t necessarily looking for an “A”-grade essay from an English or law student, but rather an essay that explores the topic uniquely—one that perhaps encourages drivers to think about the dangers of texting and driving accidents in a new way.
By submitting your essay to us, you agree that your essay may be featured on our blog. We will publish the winning essay as well as a couple of the top contenders. We’ll let you know if your essay is chosen for publication. Published essays may appear with minor edits in place.
