The 1-on-1 advising options are part of a comprehensive career or college pathway set of strategies. Each area of support may be purchased individually or collectively as part of a comprehensive career or college planning package. Each service is tailored for students in grades K-12; community college; college; graduate school; or for adults returning to school. Each component may also be presented as a lunch-n-lunch for schools, school districts, nonprofits, community-based organizations, and businesses.
Description
Developing a 4-year high school strategy (appropriate for students pursuing career or college-bound pathways): (1) Students receive one of the following sets of materials based on whether they are pursuing a pathway into a 2-year or 4-year college or a career pathway into the workforce or military.
College-bound students are provided with:
- A High School Plan for Students with College-Bound Dreams: Third Edition
- A High School Plan for Students with College-Bound Dreams: Third Edition Workbook
- 3-ring Binder with tabs for tracking academics, extracurricular activities, personal achievements, and college/scholarship applications
Career- or community college-bound students are provided with:
- How to Plan Your Career or College Pathway
- Career or College Pathway: Study Skills & Learning Strategies
- Career or College Pathway: Individual Graduation Plan
- 3-ring Binder with tabs for tracking academics, extracurricular activities, personal achievements, and college/scholarship applications
(2) The student is required to write a narrative describing their desired career aspirations or college major. (3) We direct the student to complete a free interest profile and to write a narrative summarizing any differences between careers that match their interests and their previously established career or college major. (4) We review the student’s narrative, together with a review of the student’s résumé; transcript; high school profile; PSAT, SAT, ACT, and/or ASVAB score reports; and career clusters offered by the student’s school or school district. (5) We host a meeting with the student and parents to discuss the student’s career or college aspirations and the results of their interest profile. (6) Based on what is shared by the student, and the available career or college pathways offered by the student’s school or school district, we draft recommended actions to maximize available opportunities within the student’s school or school district during the meeting. (7) We discuss strategies to be pursued and actions to be taken within the context of the student’s current year of high school through the 12th grade to maximize the student’s career or college opportunities.
